Paper
and packaging make up huge proportions of most municipal and
commercial waste streams and therefore the
paper industry is the UK’s largest recycler.
Yet
almost 5 million tonnes of waste paper are still sent to landfill
or incineration each year, often causing the industry to import
fibre to meet its needs. This makes neither environmental
nor economic sense.
Severnside are a member of the British Recovered Paper Association
(BRPA), which was formed in 1997 and succeeded the British
Waste Paper Association, which had previously represented
the waste paper industry for over 75 years. The aim of the
BRPA is to promote, protect and enhance the interests and
stature of the United Kingdom recovered paper collection and
processing industry and its members.
The association is the major organisation in the industry
and is affiliated to The Paper Federation of Great Britain.
