Midlands Co-operative
Society being an ethical business sought ways of recycling
waste to help protect the environment whilst applying a business
case to this difficult issue.
In choosing Severnside, as our recycling partner,
the Society established the use of the Maximizer fully auditable
computer system. This enables all parties to monitor the movement
of waste, in this case, cardboard and paper.
Previous to the installation of the Middleton
Persona LP50 HM automatic baler cardboard was collected from
some 150 sites by various, including Severnside,
contractors. The cost of this both in sterling and environmentally
was enormous and something we at the Midlands Co-operative
Society could not tolerate long term.
By installing the baler, at our supplying depot
in Leicester, and back trucking product to this machine we
have stopped the cost of the contractors, both in sterling
and petrol emissions, whilst incurring no extra vehicle mileage
as our lorries deliver daily to these sites.
Our commitment in helping to protect the environment
and working within the community convinces us that this route
is not only acceptable to our members but makes real business
sense.
