A little under 4 years ago Severnside began the roll out of a waste packaging Mobile Compaction Service. We took front and rear end loading vehicles and used them for the collections of packaging waste from wheelie bins right the way through to large walk-in containers.

This service meant that businesses that previously did not generate enough recyclate to warrant the recycling services that the industry had on offer could now be serviced. Since the service began from 1 vehicle just under 4 years ago it has grown to a fleet of 16, and continues to grow. 3000 new customers have been introduced, 89% of who had never recycled before. The Mobile Compaction Vehicles visit corner shops and blue chip companies daily and recovers in excess of 24 000 tonnes of cardboard per annum.

We are continually innovating with this service to allow new and improved collection opportunities. For example it is now possible to collect cardboard and plastic packaging from the same container, using specially designed bags to place the plastic in, which in turn gets placed in the cardboard container for collection by the Mobile Compaction Vehicles. These two recyclates are then separated out back at a Severnside location.
